In my last email, I shared a simple example of how you can use the SORTBY function.

SORTBY works fine in the example, but the SORT function would also work and is easier to configure.

So what is SORTBY good for?

To answer this question, I have another short video.

As you watch the video, the main point you should understand is that the column we are using to sort the data does not exist in the data. We create the column on the fly inside the formula:

To summarize: the SORT function is the better option when data already contains the values needed for sorting. Choose SORTBY when the values you need to sort by are not part of the data being sorted.
